Broken or Damaged Dentures? Never DIY!

The short-term physical pain of losing one or more teeth are easily dealt with, but the blow to your self-esteem and well-being is far harder to fix. This is why dentures are a welcome solution to teeth loss, a way to regain your smile and confidence even when some of your natural teeth are gone.

Dentures may not require complicated maintenance, but because they are weaker than real teeth and are not attached to your gums, they can be vulnerable to damage and the usual wear and tear. On top of that, dentures need to be detached in order to be cleaned thoroughly, and an unfortunate slip can make you drop and break them accidentally. Should this happen, don’t even think about fixing your dentures yourself.

A dentist will use materials that are specifically made to fix damaged or broken dentures. On the other hand, over the counter DIY denture repair products might have chemicals that are harmful for your dentures, thus worsening the situation. Wearing dentures that you repaired haphazardly can lead to infections, irritation, sore spots, and other oral health risks that could have been avoided had you taken them to a dental specialist immediately. It might be tempting to solve the problem yourself, but when it comes to something as important as your mouth, it’s always best to trust the experts.
